DailyDoodle: Sally Acorn kick

From the Daily Doodle series, during a kind of theme week I had going. In mid-October, I focused on drawing girls kicking butt. But one of the things I was trying to do with this theme is eliminate, to the best of my ability, the gratuitous sexualization of the action girl. It has actually been a very disappointing experience -- when I go to look for stock reference photos for various action poses, I have had to use male ones pretty much every time. This is because the female ones are either (1) passive or (2) nominally doing something actiony but involving a lot of gratuitous hip-cocking, boob-heaving, and ass-sticking-outing.

It makes me very sad, honestly!

So that week, I tried to (a) draw full figures [as I'd been doing mostly busts for a while] and (b) make them female and (c) make them as non-sexual as I can.

Sonic was one of the great loves of my childhood! I LOVED the Saturday morning cartoon, and when I discovered there were also COMICS! Boy! That was pretty much it! I collected them, actually, and I still have Issues 0 - 70 or so of the main line and most of the side-series they did during that time. I have not kept up with it even a little; I lost a lot of interest once they stated Trying Too Hard to do video game tie-ins.

However! Back when I DID follow the series I ADORED Sally. She was AWESOME. She was a princess, but a capable, strong, smart, AWESOME one who saved everyone's asses a bunch of times and kicked butt and was basically the bomb. So here she is!

I used to draw Sally and Sonic and Tails and the gang a LOT! I should get back into that, or scan some of my mortifying old junk XD
