I thought this might have been inspired by kamapon's picture.

It's hard to find anything to critique. The only thing that really strikes me is Miles' right hand (the lowest "segment" of the fingers seem either too curved or too short), but that might just be the odd angle, combined with the fact that I really have no idea how to draw decent hands. The wrist looks great, though.

I skimmed through your LJ description to see what else you were looking for. I always pretended Miles' in-game "buffness" was more the result of his suit thank his own physique (because he DOES seem more buff than a 25-year-old work-obsessed lawyer should be), but however people interpret it, I think you managed to capture that width nicely without going overboard; he looks like he's wider than Nick, at any rate.

Nick definitely comes out as the more "aggressive" of the two in this picture; I love how he's braced himself on Miles' legs. His hair is such a bitch to draw, but it looks spot on to me, so whatever you discovered really works.

For Miles's hand, I think I know exactly what you mean. I think I overdid the curving of the bottom joint of the figure in an effort to overexagerrate the clawing motion -- I'd tried sketching it with less curving and it just looked too boring and static. I guess I overdid it a little, though -- I will try to practice getting emotion and gesture out of my hands without mauling the anatomy

Ahaha, Miles. I tend to go with the "He's just that huge" theory, in large part because of official art like this. The suit does exaggerate his shoulders, I think, but in my view of PW canon, his trunk is also just plain solid.

I do obsess over body type and faces a lot in my art -- I worry about making characters too similar in physique, with hair/clothes being the only distinguishing characteristics. So, it's really encouraging to hear I'm heading in the right direction

And god, yes, Nick's hair ._.

I'm glad you like how it turned out; it took me long enough to figure out! In the end I just put together a whole bunch of reference pictures and drew in ALL the structure -- not an outline but like almost a 3D grid of the hair. That finally did the trick -- I understood how his hair worked and could do an outline of it.
